The heart chakra, associated with the colour green or rose pink, is the centre of unconditional love and our deepest desires. When our hearts are open, we view ourselves, our experiences, and all living beings with wisdom and compassion. While the three lower chakras focus strictly on self-preservation and individual identity, the heart centre marks our dynamic return to spirit. Here, we experience true empathy and compassion; as we understand and connect with others, the defensive barriers of separation begin to dissolve. The conscious choice to look past ego-driven wants in favour of a higher calling—such as selfless service, social causes, or profound spiritual commitment—signals active spiritual evolution.
Integrating heart chakra consciousness can be a gradual or sudden process, frequently marked by an internal struggle between the ego-self and the higher Self. It is easy to become temporarily lost in worldly distractions, addictions, or the unyielding pursuit of wealth and power. Ultimately, after much resistance, the ego recognises its true, supportive role and surrenders in direct service to the soul, allowing us to embody universal love and empathy. A heart-centred individual lives according to what feels authentically right and true, rendering superficial appearances and external opinions entirely irrelevant. Guilt is seldom experienced because daily actions are guided by the purest intentions.
It governs the cardiovascular and circulatory system and is associated with the air element, reflecting the lighter, finer qualities of love such as bliss, beauty, harmony, and shared laughter. At the level of consciousness, we access the astral body, which enables our capacity to experience a unified love for all humanity. This subtle auric layer appears as clouds of coloured light extending six to twelve inches beyond the physical body. Operating at a significantly higher frequency than the lower emotional layer of the sacral chakra, the astral body is deeply refined, beautiful, and frequently tinged with a radiant rose light.
