[CHAKRA SERIES] Root: Exploring the Etheric Body [Pre-Alchemical: The Outward Gaze]

A light blue figure meditates with visible chakras.

The root chakra, found at the base of the spine, is linked with the colour red and represents the lowest vibration in the human energy system. As the earth element, a balanced root chakra allows us to thrive and adapt to the dense vibrations of the physical world. It provides a sense of belonging and grounding, empowering us to manifest our needs and deepest desires into reality. By addressing our most basic concerns, the root chakra gives us the practical instincts necessary to keep our bodies safe and secure.

The etheric body is the first auric layer associated with the root chakra and is responsible for our physical sensations. It extends about 1/4″ to 2″ beyond the physical body and is made up of fine channels called nadis, which form an energetic matrix—a blueprint for the physical body and its organs. Through these nadis, communication and vitality flow throughout the human energy system.

When these nadis (light strands) intersect 21 times, a major chakra forms. If they cross 14 times, one of the 21 minor chakras is created, and less frequent intersections give rise to even smaller chakras. These smaller chakras often correspond to acupuncture or acupressure points.

The energy field of the etheric body shapes and nourishes the cells of our physical form. Constantly in motion, the etheric body can be seen within the grey to light blue spectrum, where a lighter blue hue may indicate a more sensitive individual.
