[CHAKRA SERIES] Solar Plexus: Mastering Purpose and Power [Pre-Alchemical: The Outward Gaze]

The solar plexus chakra, situated above the navel, is linked to the colour yellow and represents our individuality and ego. At this stage, we are called to develop self-worth and confidence, which enables us to recognise our purpose and find fulfilment in pursuing it. Blocks in this chakra often manifest as strong emotions like anger, fear, and frustration, fueling struggles for power and control.

Known as the fire element, the solar plexus chakra empowers us and radiates an inner warmth when fully activated. We can use the ‘fire’ of negative emotions and experiences as fuel for positive transformation and personal growth.

During adolescence, we expand into the solar plexus consciousness, which includes intellect, reason, and logic. Around the ages of 14 to 15, we begin to think independently. No longer in blissful union with the universal field or protected by our parents, our sense of self becomes identified with the ego and personality.

To ultimately transcend the ego and reclaim our whole selves, we must first build a healthy, well-functioning ego. Navigating this developmental stage successfully means learning how to thrive in the human world.

Society often encourages extroversion and the pursuit of what others desire, leading us to seek the illusion of power in various symbolic forms. As we strive for acceptance and approval from the external world—through control, recognition, wealth, dominance, and sexual conquests—we gradually lose our childhood innocence.

At the solar plexus, we access the lower mental body, the level where thoughts and ideas take shape. This finer, higher-frequency auric layer appears as yellow light radiating three to eight inches beyond the physical body—most visible around the head and shoulders—and grows brighter with concentration.
