[CHAKRA SERIES] Solar Plexus: Mastering Purpose and Power [Pre-Alchemical: The Outward Gaze]
The solar plexus chakra, situated above the navel, is linked to the colour yellow and represents our individuality and ego. At this stage of development, we are called to cultivate self-worth and confidence, which enables us to recognise our purpose and find genuine fulfilment in pursuing it. Structural blocks in this centre often manifest as intense emotions like anger, fear, and frustration, fueling defensive struggles for power and control. Known as the fire element, the solar plexus chakra empowers our focus and radiates an inner warmth when fully activated, allowing us to consciously use the ‘fire’ of negative emotions and challenging experiences as raw fuel for positive transformation and psychological growth.
During adolescence, roughly between the ages of 14 and 15, awareness shifts decisively to the solar plexus, marked by independent thought, intellect, and reason. As the mind becomes separate and independent from caregivers, the individual identifies with a separate sense of self—the ego—and expresses its individuality through the personality. Navigating this developmental stage successfully means learning how to thrive in the human world. However, society often encourages extroversion and the pursuit of external desires, leading us to seek the illusion of power in various symbolic forms. As we strive for acceptance and approval through control, recognition, wealth, dominance, and validation, we gradually lose our childhood innocence. Yet, this consolidation is non-negotiable: we must first build a healthy, well-functioning ego to ultimately transcend it, reclaim our whole selves, and return to the world.
At the solar plexus, we access the lower mental body, the level where thoughts and ideas take shape. This finer, higher-frequency auric layer appears as yellow light radiating three to eight inches beyond the physical body—most visible around the head and shoulders—and grows brighter with concentration.
