[CHAKRA SERIES] Root: Exploring the Etheric Body [Pre-Alchemical: The Outward Gaze]

A light blue figure meditates with visible chakras.

The root chakra,  positioned at the base of the spine, is linked with the colour red and coordinates the densest vibration in the human energy system. Operating as the earth element, a balanced root chakra functions as our primary somatic bedrock, allowing the psyche to adapt, survive, and thrive amidst the heavy friction of the material world. It provides the core grounding necessary to consolidate a stable vessel, empowering us to safely manifest our material needs and desires. By resolving our most primitive, survival-based anxieties, including a sense of belonging, this primal centre secures the survival instincts required to protect the biological form from fragmentation.

The etheric body is the primary auric layer associated with the root chakra, serving as the immediate energetic matrix for physical sensations and nervous system feedback. Extending approximately 1/4″ to 2″ beyond the physical skin, this layer is woven from fine channels called nadis. These strands form an intricate, subtle blueprint that directly shapes and regulates the physical organs and tissues. Vitality and information circulate continuously through this network to fuel the entire energetic system.

When these subtle light strands intersect 21 times, a major chakra node forms. An intersection of 14 strands creates one of the 21 minor chakras, while less frequent crossings give rise to smaller nodes that map onto clinical acupuncture or acupressure coordinates.

The dynamic energy field of the etheric body continuously nourishes and regulates the cellular tissues of our physical form. Pulsing in perpetual motion, the etheric body shifts across a spectrum from grey to light blue, where a highly refined light blue frequently indicates a practitioner with heightened somatic sensitivity.
